There is No Escape from Story Itself
That observation paraphrases C.S. Lewis’s thesis found in his brief anthology, “On Stories.”
Especially whenever you hear yourself or someone else say things along the lines of, “I am only going to present and discuss known objective facts. Facts are thing that are true that do not depend on a story,” utterly oblivious of the fact that what they’ve just told you is … a STORY. A story of “believe, revere, and obey me” because I am the creator, curator, and senior editor of this STORY called “Objective Fact-Based Reality.”
There is No Escape from Story Itself.
Conjecture: As soon as words are deployed, Story Itself intercepts its own recursive and psycho-existential perpetual motion. This is a very short introductory story about the story of Story Itself.
Why Story Itself?
The answer, of course, far exceeds the capacity and purpose of a brief introductory post. What we can do is introduce a few preliminaries.
Biologically, the human nervous system is relentlessly bombarded by more kinds of sensory data that can ever be adequately explained, let alone consciously quantified or fully understood. The human central nervous system perceives vastly more than the five primary senses bring into focus for the purpose of managing the material human conditions typical of life on planet Earth. The so-called sixth sense known as telepathy is only the tip of the iceberg of everyday ordinary supra-conscious and subconscious perceptions and intuitive interoceptive understandings. Staying grounded in the known laws of physics, there is nothing controversial about reminding the reader that infrared, ultraviolet, RF high bands and low bands, and a vast spectrum of electromagnetic (EM) energy (E) flows through every human body on the planet, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365.2425 days a year.
Math fans can multiply that by the current global population of approximately 8.6 billion to get a mathematical sense of the scope and scale of the exposure. This effectively makes human bodies into literal EM nodes in a planetary optoelectromagnetic mesh network.
In this objective, created and evolutionary context, the human brain and mind are evolved to fabricate stories from the maelstrom of hopelessly overwhelming quantities and qualia of noise. Story Fabrication is the only thing we know how to do. Arguably, one of the most dangerous of these fabrications is along the lines of, “I never fabricate. I always only stick to the facts.” It’s a powerful STORY, one of the most powerful in the human anthology because it empirically, objectively, serves its own purposes so well.
Business Plan? Made of stories. Startup Pitch Deck? Made of stories. Construction Project? Made of stories. Quantum Computing? Made of stories. AI? made of stories. Economic Systems? Made of stories. Math and Physics? Made of stories. Even Chemistry and Biology. All Story Itself. Mostly true, accurate, enlightening and enlivening stories that, according to their stories, purport to be in service to Maximal Truth Seeking. Stories, nonetheless.
This is why *the stories that we allowed and continue to allow to be told to our children have come home to roost over the past several years. We allowed the spoken creation of terrifying, conjured, all-too-real realities to be incepted, to be installed like malicious software apps, payloads, malware, all downloaded into multiple generations reality-creation engines: the minds, hearts, imaginations, and firmware fabrications from which all human behavior and therefore, reality itself, inevitably emerges.
For all the wondrous complexity and nuance of the human condition, at the root node, the on-the-spot, on-the-fly fabrication of Story Itself, is arguably the foundational ability and skill that humans bring to the table.
Whether or not you believe it, whether or not I believe it, the fact of the matter is that tens, even hundreds of thousands of Americans not only believed and continue to believe some of the most misanthropic stories ever imagined throughout the entire history of Story Itself, of which the very fabric of everyday, ordinary human experience is woven. “We are the flow, we are the ebb; we are the weaver, we are the web,” is not ‘just a nursery rhyme.’ Far from it. In both previous and later entries, we’ve curated examples demonstrating both present and mid-range historical work such as that by organizations like the Monroe Institute, to functionally understand how to smith and forge tools, techniques, and methods for the weaponization of those flows and ebbs.
Stories Alone Gestate Worlds
Name a single material human accomplishment, structure, building, invention, or accomplishment that was not preceded by its Creation Story.
That has never happened because, it can not happen within the context of a rulial realm within which observers like us exist.
-
“Let there be light.” Story Itself.
-
“Red in tooth and claw.” Story Itself.
-
“Weakness is Provocation.” Story Itself.
-
“Every man for himself.” Story Itself.
-
“So you better step on their neck before they step on your neck.” Story Itself.
-
“It is finished,” Story Itself.
-
“On Earth as it is in Heaven.”. Story Itself.
Every philosophy, perspective, description, explanation, business plan, research project, marriage proposal, act of statecraft, white paper, military strategy and tactic.
Story Itself.
Your debunking, dismantling, demeaning, or discrediting of these observations? That too is a story.
There is No Escape from Story Itself.
Every film or series you’ve ever seen? Story Itself.
Your so-called life? That’s right. Story Itself.
So why not purpose to make it a useful story, a truthful story, a creative story, at the very least?
A healing story, an uplifting story? Because its all that any of us has got.
That’s my STORY, and I’m sticking to it.
